No sooner do we get back to work in the new year than the huge Autosport International event takes place at the NEC. The dates for this year are 11-14 January (the Thursday and Friday being trade days and the weekend public), and a steady stream of announcements from the organisers suggests a bigger range of attractions for this year.
From our industry, a number of kit car manufacturers always attend, and we will have a stand of our own in Hall 19 as part of the Performance Car Show. But there’s plenty else to look out for during the two days. Former kit car maker Ginetta will be launching its new LMP1 car at the show. From junior cars to the World Endurance Championship, today’s Ginetta covers all the bases. Ten of the new LMP1 cars will be built to satisfy two-car teams.
On the Saturday and Sunday, British Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell will be at the show. If you’re there, don’t miss the interview by Henry Hope-Frost on the live stage. Talking of live attractions, there’s also the Live Action Arena where you’ll be able to see cars in action, while the optional Paddock Pass ticket will get you backstage in that area.
Throughout 2017, many events have celebrated the 70th anniversary of Ferrari. Those celebrations will be book-ended with the marque being featured at Autosport. Everything from sports cars to grand prix cars will be on show, and the new 488 Challenge race car will also make its debut.
New for 2018 is the Tuning Village as part of the Performance Car Show where a number of specialist tuners will show their wares. The year’s World Rally Championship will also be launched at Autosport. So, as ever, there will be plenty to see throughout the four days. See you there?
